Product Modules

FluidFlow3 is one complete product. The activation process turns on the software modules, calculation capability and network licence manager from the full product. The versatility of the software means you can be working on a sprinkler system, or a mineral process plant with slurry flows, or a vapour collection system all from within the same environment.

We have the capability to adapt to your needs, find out more information about the modules below:

Liquids, Incompressible Fluid Flow
Two Phase Liquid-Gas Flow
Non-Newtonian, Non-Settling Slurry Flow
Dynamic Analysis & Scripting
Gas, Compressible Flow
Settling Slurries
Heat Transfer

Liquids, Incompressible Fluid Flow

Liquids, Incompressible Fluid FlowEngineers using FluidFlow3 can determine the pressure, flow, temperature, and phase state at any point within their pipe systems. Any type and any size of piping system can be modelled. Real piping systems often contain many different types of components and fittings.

Two Phase Liquid-Gas Flow

Two Phase Liquid-Gas FlowThe two phase flow module allows two phase liquid-gas calculations to be accomplished. Two phase flow occurs in many industrial processes. Examples are petroleum, chemical, nuclear, refrigeration, space, and geothermal industries.

Non-Newtonian, Non-Settling Slurry Flow

Non-Newtonian, Non-Settling Slurry FlowA non-Newtonian fluid is a liquid whose flow properties are not described by a single constant value of viscosity. Examples of non-Newtonian fluids are: polymer solutions, starch suspensions, paint, blood, food products, and mining suspensions of densely packed particles.

Dynamic Analysis & Scripting

Dynamic Analysis & ScriptingScripting can be an effective tool when you are ready to expand your design capabilities. Considering design scenarios, design optimisation, safety and operating studies are an essential part of achieving quality, well designed flow systems.

Gas, Compressible Flow

Gas, Compressible Flow When a gas flows in a pipe network the gas density, temperature and velocity change as the fluid flows through the network.

Settling Slurries

Settling SlurriesSettling slurries comprise a carrier fluid conveying solid particles. This type of flow has extensive applications in the mining and mineral processing industries, where the design of pumped systems must take into account the effect of solids on pipe friction loss and pump performance.

Heat Transfer

Heat TransferHeat transfer capabilities are included as standard within FluidFlow3.

Same pump, same flow, different fluids

Same pump, same flow, different fluidsThis example is designed to show that a pump operating in any system will always deliver the same head (m Fluid), irrespective of the fluid pumped.

The power requirement will change as will system friction loss depending on the fluid physical properties.

The pdf report shows the flowsheet and tabular results (user definable).

Heat transfer and mixing in a recycle line

Heat transfer and mixing in a recycle lineThis network contains a pumped recycle loop with a second fluid (acetone at a higher temperature) which is added in the recycle line.

The pdf report contains the flowsheet only, but this has been adjusted to show all important results. In this case the complete design and operation can be communicated on one sheet of paper.

Steam distribution through a branched network

Steam distribution through a branched networkThis example shows how steam flow is distributed through 4 laterals each containing a different resistance.

For steam flow we have elected to show the actual volumetric flow. Note how this increases as the steam pressure reduces and how density and temperature reduce. FluidFlow3 works with real gases, the calculations do not make any simplifying assumptions such as ideal gas, adiabatic conditions, etc.

The pdf report shows the flowsheet and tabular results (user definable).

Fan operating performance

Fan operating performanceIn this example we consider the performance of a fan at different suction pressures.

The delivery systems are identical, notice how actual volume flow and presure rise changes as a function of suction pressure.

The pdf report shows the flowsheet and tabular results.

Larger cooling water system

Larger cooling water systemThis example has 790 pipes and 733 nodes and represents the model of a cooling water system made before a plant expansion was made.

The pdf report shows the flowsheet and tabular results. A full report (over 100 pages) is available by clicking here.

Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance is an integral part of our business ethic. From our software design approach through to our released product we attempt to work to the highest quality.

Before each minor or major release the results from FluidFlow3 are checked against over 300 networks. The results from 95 compressible flow calculations, 152 incompressible flow networks, 43 non-Newtonian and slurry examples, and 10 scripting networks are checked for accuracy.

The QA networks are installed with the product, so that our verification and test procedures are available for all users to view. Many examples have been taken from standard literature sources, while others are designed to 'stress' the calculation procedures.

Pressure loss, heat transfer, equipment operating outside normally accepted limits, physical property data at extremes, fluid mixing, phase change and sonic choking at size change and end points are some of the considerations tested.

The complexity and number of worked examples we check against is always under review; it is likely that number of checks we do against each release will keep increasing.
